These workers are eligible to work in Canada for an additional 18 months by either extending their work permit or applying for a new one. Those currently in Canada will also have the ability to work in the interim period while their permit is being extended or a new one is being issued.<\/p><p>Those interested in applying for this new program can do so by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/news\/notices\/measures-post-graduation-work-permits-temporary-resident-permanent-resident-pathways.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">consulting this IRCC webpage<\/a>.<\/p><h3 id=\"h-here-s-how-applying-for-a-pgwp-works\">Here\u2019s how applying for a PGWP works:<\/h3><p>To obtain a post-graduation work permit, you must currently hold valid temporary status or have left Canada. You must have graduated from an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/corporate\/publications-manuals\/operational-bulletins-manuals\/temporary-residents\/study-permits\/post-graduation-work-permit-program\/eligibility.html#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">eligible designated learning institution\u00a0(DLI)<\/a>. You must also submit clear evidence that you meet all of the following criteria:<\/p><ul><li>You have completed an academic, vocational or professional training program at an eligible institution\u00a0<strong>in Canada\u00a0<\/strong>that is at least\u00a0<strong>8\u00a0months in duration<\/strong>\u00a0leading to a degree, diploma or certificate.<\/li><li>You have maintained\u00a0<strong>full-time student status in Canada<\/strong>\u00a0during each academic session of the program or programs of study they have completed and submitted as part of their post-graduation work permit application. Exceptions can be made only for the following:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/corporate\/publications-manuals\/operational-bulletins-manuals\/temporary-residents\/study-permits\/post-graduation-work-permit-program\/eligibility.html#leave_from_studies\">leave from studies<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/corporate\/publications-manuals\/operational-bulletins-manuals\/temporary-residents\/study-permits\/post-graduation-work-permit-program\/eligibility.html#final_academic_session\">final academic session<\/a>, or COVID-19 related reasons (explained below).<\/li><li>You have received a transcript and an official letter from the eligible DLI confirming that you have met the requirements to complete your program of study. The transcript and official letter must be included in a post-graduation work permit application.<\/li><\/ul><h4>Special policy for online study during the COVID-19 pandemic<\/h4><p>During the pandemic, you can complete\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/study-canada\/work\/after-graduation\/about.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">100% of your study online from abroad<\/a>\u00a0and still be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). Any studies completed outside Canada between spring 2020 and August 31, 2022, counts toward the length of a PGWP. This applies even if you\u2019re completing 2 study programs.\u00a0These loosened requirements apply to \u201call international students who are enrolled in a PGWP-eligible program, and meet all other PGWP criteria.\u201d<\/p><p><strong>Within 180\u00a0days of the date of applying<\/strong>\u00a0for the post-graduation work permit, you must also meet\u00a0<strong>one<\/strong>\u00a0of the following criteria:<\/p><ul><li>You hold a valid study permit, OR<\/li><li>You held a study permit, OR<\/li><li>You were authorized to study in Canada without the requirement to obtain a study permit under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/laws-lois.justice.gc.ca\/eng\/regulations\/SOR-2002-227\/section-188.html\">paragraphs\u00a0188(1)(a) and (b)<\/a>\u00a0of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations. This list is limited to private staff of diplomats,\u00a0members of the armed forces of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/laws-lois.justice.gc.ca\/eng\/acts\/V-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">certain countries<\/a>, and indigenous people,\u00a0<em><strong>but it also includes<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0people who enroll in a\u00a0course or program of studies that is six months or less and will be completed within the period for their stay authorized upon entry into Canada.<\/li><\/ul><p>Canada wants\u00a0<a title=\"Study in Canada\" href=\"https:\/\/aucanadavisa.com\/useful-infos\/study-in-canada\/\">international students<\/a>\u00a0and graduates to plan for a long-term career in the country. To facilitate this goal, the\u00a0post-graduation work permit program allows students who have graduated from a\u00a0participating Canadian post-secondary institution\u00a0to gain valuable Canadian work experience.<\/p><p>With this experience, graduates not only earn professionally \u2014 they can also benefit from\u00a0permanent residence\u00a0immigration programs that reward Canadian work experience, such as the\u00a0Canadian Experience Class.<\/p><p>A post-graduation work permit may be valid for up to three years, depending on the duration of the study program in Canada completed by the applicant. Moreover, the post-graduation work permit is an open work permit, allowing its bearer to work in any location in Canada, not restricted to any employer. Neither the applicant nor an employer needs to obtain a\u00a0Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)\u00a0before the worker may begin working in Canada.<\/p><p>The post-graduation work permit is sometimes referred to as a post-graduate work permit.<\/p><h3 id=\"h-eligible-universities-and-colleges\">Eligible universities and colleges<\/h3><p>The educational institution must be one of the following: The applicant must provide evidence that the program or programs of study were taken in Canada at one of the following eligible Canadian designated learning institutions (DLIs):<\/p><ul><li>a public post-secondary institution, such as a college, a trade or technical school, a university, or a CEGEP (in Quebec); or<\/li><li>a private post-secondary institution that operates under the same rules and regulations as public institutions in Quebec; or<\/li><li>a private secondary or post-secondary institution in Quebec offering qualifying programs of 900 hours or longer leading to a diploma of vocational studies (DVS) or an attestation of vocational specialization (AVS); or<\/li><li>a Canadian, private institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees, such as an associate, bachelor\u2019s, master\u2019s or doctoral degree, but only if the student is enrolled in a program of study leading to a degree, as authorized by the province, which may not include all programs of study offered by the private institution<\/li><\/ul><p>See the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/study-canada\/study-permit\/prepare\/designated-learning-institutions-list.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DLI list<\/a>\u00a0to verify schools\u2019 eligibility.<\/p><p>Applications can be submitted either online or on paper.<\/p><h2 id=\"h-work-permit-duration\">Work permit duration<\/h2><p>How long the post-graduation work permit is valid for depends on the length of the study program.<\/p><div class=\"m2c-table__container\"><div class=\"m2c-table__wrapper \"><table
